Goalie Scores!

RileyToday, the Bike Whisperer got a visit from an eight and a half year-old, all-around athlete, Riley!  He plays goalie for his team, so he knows all about “calm under pressure.”  But on a bike, he was yet to learn to apply that same skill.  Like every kid coming to my street for a lesson, he didn’t think he’d leave knowing how to ride a bike.  And like many, he was overcompensating whenever he’d steer too much to one side.  Of course, I needed to work on his balance–the age old challenge to riding without training wheels.

In a little over an hour, Riley was riding on his own.  His mom was amazed.  She had shared that the family tried for many hours with only heartbreak.  I assured her, all families visiting me had gone through the same challenges.  And that’s why I’m here to help.  Both mother and son drove off with smiles on their faces.  I immediately sent them a follow-up email on what to work on this week to reinforce the new habit, and she responded via smartphone to share they were out celebrating Riley’s achievement.  That’s what it’s all about!  Yay, Riley!
